PARIS DESIGN WEEK 2018 - pARIS dECO oFF 2018

Firmly established in Paris, the Paris Deco Off 2018 honors the most prestigious international brand designers of fabrics, trimmings, furniture and lighting, and once again proves that Paris is the capital of creation and decoration. In parallel with the grand event of Maison & Objet 2018 I can only imagine  how animated and illuminated the streets of Paris must be this time of year.

I may not have had the opportunity to wander the streets of Paris this week, but a list of participants' websites has kept me thoroughly entertained, so here are some of my top picks for Paris Deco Off 2018.

Christian Fischbacher

For nearly two centuries, Christian Fischbacher has been at the heart of the textile industry. A family-owned company with headquarters in St. Gallen Switzerland, a centre for the textile industry since the 13th century.

THE DESIGN TRENDS I AM MOST excited TO SEE IN 2018

My VELVET CRUSH

Design now is about celebrating everyday luxuries and no fabric does that better than velvet.  A classic, it never really goes out of style and for those of you who are obsessed with the cozy, luxurious textile,  well this is your year to shine.

While pure cotton velvet can stain easily unless stain-guarded, new poly-blend velvets have a lush, luxe feel that are childproof but still as elegant.

I couldn't agree with Georgie Boy more!

Jewel Tones

Designers expect home decor to be bolder than years before, with vivid jewel tones, luxe velvet and various metallics balanced out with organic accents. Pantone just named Ultra Violet its Color of the Year, while Sherwin-Williams selected Oceanside SW 6496. Both shades are said to be especially vibrant, just the kick start we need to the new year!

Mixing metals

Consumers have been experiencing stainless fatigue for some time now and are longing for more warmth in their homes. This is why we have seen such a huge revival of gold, brass and copper over the past few year years.

I've always felt that it's okay to mix and match your metals but you really need a good eye to make it all come together harmoniously.  It's also a  great way to add some character to your space. To keep things simple, my one bit of advice when mixing metals would be to just pick one dominant metal and blend other metals in to function as quieter accents.

How absolutely fabulous is this tub?

fringe & tassels

This year we are expecting to see this trend on the edges of toss cushions, draping over lamps, weaving its way into upholstery, and even showing up in some other unusual places.

bohemian chic

Despite the recent rise of minimal, modern, and Scandinavian influences in decor, many signs point to traditional décor making a comeback in 2018.  We are even seeing a blending of these styles to create some really interesting spaces. Nothing seems more far from Scandinavian minimalism than Bohemian eclectic design but the trendiest interior style at present is actually a mix of these two beautiful decorating styles.

This room was designed to showcase some of Fabricut’s warm, textural, and tribal items. they wanted to create a modern boho living space with earthy-neutral tones and layered textures. By using clean, modern furniture pieces alongside a classic sofa profile, they were able to incorporate many different textures and patterns into this one room - creating a cohesive and relaxed space.

Mix lots of patterns and don't be afraid to use colours that wouldn't necessarily go together in a conventional way.  Each piece should be unique and tell a story no matter what it looks like. No one should be able to walk into a bohemian styled room and be able to tell where you bought the furniture.

Bohemian style rooms tend to have certain similarities, they might share some of the same design elements but no two are completely alike. If you're looking for a style that you can truly call your own then Boho might be for you.
