create a sacred space in your home

A sacred space  can be a place to help us realign with higher consciousness whenever we lose touch. Creating a special place to meditate, pray and connect to the divine can be one of the greatest gifts we ever give ourselves.

Select a room, corner, or just a box if that's all you have. Any place can be spiritual if you decorate with intention.

Here are a few tips to get you started then.

1. Get rid of all clutter

Once you have selected a quiet space in your home you will probably need to clear some clutter. Clutter can be distracting and  is not suitable for a spiritual room.  It's the number one thing that blocks useful energy.

2. Set up an altar

Start by creating your focal point. Depending on your religious or spiritual beliefs set up an altar with spiritual objects that are meaningful to you.  Add holy texts, mala beads, statues, crystals, and incense.

3. personalize your space

Once you start to  personalize your space, only add those things which help nourish your soul. This is how you begin to put spirituality into form.  Decorate with objects and colours that are meaningful to you.  Some people find a neutral colour palette calming while others find bold colours help raise their vibration. Choose colours and objects that inspire you to meditate, create, pray, do yoga or any other sacred practice.

Some people enjoy praying or meditating in a comfy chair in a sunny and cheerful room. Others might feel more comfortable in a dimly lit room and surrounded by burning candles and oodles of floor pillows when connecting to source. Listening to yourself is an important part of choosing  just the right objects. Use the power of your intuition when decorating.  This is your space, what motivates you, inspires you?

3. explore your senses

Holistic  practitioners  tell us that when our 5 senses are being nourished we are more likely to feel healthier in mind and body.

VISION - Select colours for your space that make you feel happy and not dull or depressed. Colour impacts people differently so it is very important that you pay attention to how colour impacts you personally.

SOUND - I love music, it can really lift my mood in just a matter of minutes.  According to some studies music and certain frequencies can help change your emotional state . Incorporate soothing or uplifting music depending on your mood.

SMELL - Smell holds such a healing power. Essential oils and fragrances can help energize, relieve depression, or just take you back to that happy place. :)

TOUCH - When designing around the sense of touch really think about what sensations you would like to transmit.

By being in tune with nature we align ourselves with the inherent wisdom that is within us all. Enhance your spirituality by connecting with nature, even indoors.  Why not create your sacred space outside if you have a lovely garden or peaceful backyard.

Add peace and tranquility to your sacred space by adding a beautiful water feature.  I have a water fountain in the store. The sound of running water is so soothing and helps alleviate stress during my work day.

Not only are plants aesthetically pleasing, they help purify the air we breathe. I have a couple at the store, only wish I had room for a jungle!
